#Badcopy pro review manual#
This manual white balance is probably why the color profile can not be corrected completely. This can drastically affect the image depending on what they did including making the images look unfocused. There are several things I noticed in the DCU shooting information window first it looks like DPR did some sort of manual white balance when the images where taken. It doesn't go away at higher shutter speeds so the whole shutter shack narrative is really just a red herring. Correcting the color in the ACR Presets tab back to Natural helps the images look better but there still is a smudged appearance to all ISO's. If you open and output the same files without changing anything in DCU 592 the color looks normal so there is something DPR did with the files in ACR to make the color so far off. This is only happening because DPR did something with the color profile settings in ACR. When you change the color profile under presets to force it back to the embedded Natural image tone this changes all the values for Highlights Shadows Lights etc which shouldn't be the case. When you first open the files in ACR the exposure reads 0.59 and all the other settings read zero. When you do this the settings all change under the Basic tab. This helps correct the color so the magenta blooming goes away but not completely. You can go to the ACR Preset Tab to force the image tone back to Natural which is how DPR exposed the image. There is no way to completely mitigate the problems. There is definitely something wrong with the color profile in the downloadable DPR RAW files they have marked in the Info button as ACR embedded. If we can't, we should probably hit the camera with a hammer. He also proposed using a very shaky tripod just so we could "reproduce" the issue. The current argument is that MarBa's test covering a large range of shutter speeds (including those found problematic by DPReview) can't possibly show shutter shake, but only mirror shake. When challenged in a PM, he/she said I "ought to know" what the offensive aspect of this was.ĭPR has some issues. That guy would be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian - just like now then, at some point, would start deleting posts and locking threads.

This particular mod once deleted my post because it was "incendiary/pejorative", because I used the phrase "sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander"(You read that correctly.) in terms of suggesting that DPR's pros/cons ought to be consistent. Worse is the apologists who get defensive each time someone criticizes their favorite influencer, regardless how poor they deliver.Īnd the accompanying thread-with a DPR Pentax SLR forum mod jumping in: Shutter shock test - K-3 III with DA35/2.8 and FA50/1.4: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review Most people who visit influencers like this are gullible enough to swallow it. buy fancy new sony and nikon stuff without viewfinder instead from Amazon“ I really haven't had issues, but with my K-1/K-1 II models, when I am shooting from a tripod I use the electronic shutter (I would also mention that most of my tripod shots are out of this shutter range as well - typically quite a bit slower).Well the narrative / conspiracy theory someone has paid for is „mechanical shutter and mirror is bad, you cant shoot proper images with it. It seems to affect certain lenses more than others. Shutter shake is a weird thing - it may affect one camera (of the same model) much more than another. Clearly it can be enabled if it can be used for pixel shift, so just figure that out and get it out the door.

I think DP Review could do better, but I also don't know why Pentax hasn't released a firmware update that allows for an electronic shutter. What they’ve done is muckraking pure and simple. Even if they determine that they’ve got a bad copy of the camera and a replacement resolves the issue, they can disclose that in the final write-up so that buyers know to do some tests while under warranty.

Here they write some nonsense about having issues at ISO 100 and 200 without even mentioning the shutter speeds. They talked about shutter speeds and focal lengths where they were running into issues and then just pointed out that one could adjust ISO and/or aperture to get a non-problematic shutter speed. Look at what they wrote about shutter shock on the D780. However, they haven’t done their due diligence yet.

If they reach a determination that it’s a legit problem, then they absolutely should post them and explain the full setup (including disclosing the tripod and head used). They didn’t need to post those images yet. this is something we'll be looking at further as we delve further into our analysis for our review.", by their own admission they have not explored all possible avenues yet in order to understand whether the problem is worth reporting about or not.Exactly.
